THE PACE KEEPS SHIFTING

I've noticed something strange about how I think about timelines now. A project I would have estimated at two weeks a year ago, I now assume will take three hours. Sometimes I'm right. Sometimes I'm wildly off in either direction.

The tools keep changing what's possible. Claude handles things today that would have required custom code six months ago. agents let me scaffold entire features while I'm still sketching the architecture in my head. But the interesting part isn't the speed itself.

It's that innovation feels less like discrete breakthroughs and more like continuous pressure. There's no moment to pause and assess because by the time you've integrated one capability, three more have emerged.

I'm not sure this is entirely good. Some of my best work has come from sitting with a problem longer than felt comfortable. Constraints used to force creativity. Now constraints dissolve before you've had time to wrestle with them.

Maybe the new skill is knowing when to slow down deliberately. When to ignore the new release and finish what you started. The technology keeps accelerating but human understanding still moves at human speed.
